Employment opportunities within the energy efficiency industry
With an ambitious target to achieve net zero by 2050, with millions struggling to afford to heat their homes due to the energy crisis, which is feared will only rise further as a result of the Russian full-scale invasion on Ukraine, and a real need to combat climate change, the demand for energy-saving measures is rising at an incredible rate.
This is the perfect time to develop a career within the energy efficiency industry and that’s why Dyson Energy Services are looking to invest in people and give them the opportunity and skillsets, to prosper within our industry.
In this blog, we explain why the energy efficiency industry is the industry to be in and how we plan to invest in upskilling people within local communities, to provide them with a sustainable long career.
Why work within the energy efficiency industry?
In response to the climate change crisis, the UK Government released their Net Zero Strategy, which sets out policies and proposals for decarbonizing all sectors of the UK economy, to meet the net zero target by 2050.
Decarbonising residential buildings is key to achieving net zero, with The Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) advising that residential buildings contribute up to 23% of the greenhouse gas emissions.
Furthermore, 3.18 million households are in fuel poverty in England. Following the Covid-19 pandemic, alongside the energy crisis and rising cost of living, National Energy Action (NEA) estimates that the number of households in fuel poverty is set to rise to over 6 million.
Consumers are feeling the impact of the rising energy bills and are looking at ways to cut costs. Retrofitting homes to improve the fabric efficiency and changing the way we heat our homes, has never been so important.
UK government supports green jobs
The UK government set an ambition to support 2 million green jobs by 2030, launching a new Green Jobs Taskforce to set the direction for the job market as we transition to a high-skill, low carbon economy. This forms part of the government’s ambitious plan to build back greener and achieve net zero by 2050.
Apprenticeships and Skills Minister Gillian Keegan reportedly said, “It is now more critical than ever to make sure people get the skills they need to progress and that will help our economy to recover.”
“I am very much looking forward to co-chairing this important taskforce so we can create more, high quality green job opportunities, levelling up our economy and delivering on our commitment to be net zero by 2050.”
