What is the recommended amount of loft insulation you should have installed?

These days, building regulations require loft insulation to be around 10-12 inches thick or a depth of 270mm.  If your home was built before 1982 and has not subsequently received an insulation top-up, then you should consider enquiring.

Benefit from 0% VAT when you install energy efficiency measures

Now is the perfect time to consider upgrading the energy efficiency of your home.  Not only because energy bills are rising at an incredible rate, but you can also benefit from 0% VAT thanks to an announcement made by the government.  This VAT cut will be available from 1 April 2022 until 2027.  As a result, households looking to upgrade the energy efficiency of their homes will benefit from further savings with this recent incentive.  This is applicable when installing insulation and renewable measures.

Is there funding available for loft insulation if you receive benefits?

Funding may be available from the governments Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) scheme.  This is an obligation on energy companies to provide funding for energy-saving measures, by the government, to upgrade the energy efficiency of the country’s worst-performing housing and to provide fuel poverty support.  ECO4 funding is available for households with low incomes, in receipt of qualifying benefits and with a low property EPC rating. This is part of a wider government strategy to reduce carbon emissions, tackle fuel poverty, and help householders save money on their energy bills.

Frequently asked questions.

What is the recommend depth of loft insulation?

The minimum recommended depth of loft insulation is 270mm.

I already have some loft insulation; can it be topped up?

Absolutely.  Any existing insulation can be left in the loft and additional insulation added to top it up, ensuring it is at the recommended depth of 270mm.  Loft insulation is installed between the joists on the loft floor (if your property is a virgin loft with no insulation) and laid on top if you have existing insulation.

I use my loft for storage, but would like it insulated, is this possible?

This would require further assessment by one of our retrofit surveyors.

How long does it take to install?

Depending on the size of your property, on average our installers would take around one hour to install your loft insulation.

What products do you install?

We work with various system manufacturers and we install various thicknesses of insulation, including 100mm, 150mm and 200mm.

I have down lights in my rooms, what do you do to safeguard these?

Our installers will check the lights and if required will install downlight covers. Downlight covers provide a safe and effective way to install your downlights when working in ceilings below attics. They also help reduce the amount of warm air that can escape, which is great for those who want their house (or business) cool without using lots of energy!

I have pipework coming from my tanks, would you insulate these?

Yes.  If uninsulated our installers will insulate all pipework and tanks.

I have a wooden loft hatch; would you insulate this?

Yes.  Insulate would be added to the back of the loft hatch, in line with the depth of loft insulation fitted.  Loft hatches will also be draft proofed, in accordance with the insulation material specification.

Are your installers employed by you?

Yes.  Our professional employed teams are trained to the highest standards.
