Educating Bedford College students on the energy efficiency industry
With 40 years in the energy efficiency industry, we have made it our mission to raise awareness of the energy-saving work our industry delivers to help achieve government carbon reduction targets and keep the nation warm. We need to encourage the younger generation to work and grow within our thriving industry, through education.
Raising awareness of the energy efficiency industry
With an ambitious target to achieve net zero by 2050, millions struggling to afford to heat their homes due to the energy crisis, and a real need to combat climate change, the demand for energy-saving measures are rising at an incredible rate.
To meet this demand and to achieve government targets, the industry needs the right people with the right skill sets. It is well known that there is a skills gap and a labour shortage, and together we need to look at ways we can overcome these challenges.
At Dyson Energy Services, we want to play our part in helping to bridge that skills gap by educating young people on the opportunities.
Educating students on the energy efficiency industry
We are delighted to have recently delivered a presentation to over 40 students, taking Electrical or Bricklaying courses, at Bedford College.
Ian Morrall, Managing Director at Dyson Energy Services, presented to students on the career opportunities within the energy efficiency industry.
This forms part of our wider national campaign, which aims to engage and educate students in colleges across the country close to our local regional offices, on careers within our sector and raise the profile of the energy efficiency industry, which is key in contributing to a net zero future.
Ian said, “We believe it’s vital that students engage with local employers as part of their course, so they can see for themselves the opportunities and careers available, moreover, to learn about an industry that they can be part of.”
Ian went on to say, “It has been a challenging time for colleges, as the Covid-19 pandemic has restricted the ability for students and employers to engage face-to-face on industry, enriching students experience. It is important that businesses like us invest the time to prepare students for the world of work, educate on industry and help build confidence in students to empower them to make good career choices.”
Connecting with young people can make a difference in their lives
We are passionate about playing our part in giving young people the information they require to make informed decisions about their future careers.
We are confident that investing time and allowing students to engage, can make a real difference in their lives.
A career within the energy efficiency industry has lots of benefits:
- Longevity
- Industry backed by government legislation
- Great career prospects
- High levels of earnings
- ‘Green jobs’ – playing a part in achieving net zero for future generations
- Educational – to reduce your carbon footprint
Michael Worthington, Student Services Coordinator at Bedford College said, “At Bedford College Group we aim to help our students move into secure, sustainable employment or education. That is why we were pleased to welcome the team from Dyson Energy Services in to speak to our students so that our students can find out about opportunities in the energy efficiency sector. Our students found the opportunity to learn about this growing industry and the ways it can be used to meet the countries carbon targets to be very interesting and informative. We are grateful to Dyson for volunteering their services to help inform our students”
